
We have been conducting research into the challenges, options and solutions associated with implementing effective talent management practices across health and social care systems. Here we share some of our initial findings.
Talent management is about getting the best from people in your organisation and ensuring that the potential of all individuals is harnessed, whether they are destined to become future leaders or if they are to thrive and excel where they are.
There are synergies in the critical success factors whether implementing talent management in stand-alone teams, organisations or across complex systems. These include strong leadership, executive sponsorship and commitment, being clear the outcomes you want it to achieve and engaging everyone in their roles and responsibilities.
Research participants shared many positive examples of collaboration, despite the challenging economic, demographic and political backdrops they operate within. There is recognition that significant changes to ways of working are required for the sector to remain attractive to prospective and existing staff. If there is to be a sustainable impact, future approaches to workforce and talent management must be dynamic and responsive.

The ultimate aims were to ignite further discussion amongst contributors and key stakeholders and to encourage collaborative action to address collective talent management priorities

Recommended actions focused on defining shared cultural and leadership requirements, capitalising on opportunities to work in partnership, improving and utilising workforce intelligence and ensuring approaches to talent management are adapted to reflect the needs of different generations.
